no new update

Sadly, the only work done in the laundry room this weekend was... laundry.
Well, not entirely true. We shopped for counter tops, sink, and faucet, so as soon as I am ready (when ever THAT will be...) I'll be prepared to buy right away.

Now all I need is the time to do it. :-(

Building Laundry Room Cabinets

Last weekend I started making the cabinets for the laundry room. Since I no longer have a workshop (that used to be where the laundry room is now!), I had to do the major cutting outside.

I am building two base cabinets. The sides, bottom, and various frame parts are cut from a single 4' x 8' sheet of hardwood veneer 3/4" plywood.

First I cut off a two foot section from one end, which became the bottom shelf of the larger cabinet:

Then I ripped the remainder of the large sheet in half length-wise, which made it easier to work with:

Cut one side piece to size:

The back of each cabinet is 1/4" luan:

The toe-kick notch is cut out with the circular saw, but the cuts are finished with a back saw:

Here are the finished carcasses:

Next I will make the face frames....
Wow, almost a year since I last posted!
Unfortunately, only about one month's worth of progress has been made. :-(

In that time, the two main bits of progress have been that the sheetrock in the back room is all installed, but not taped (except the closet, which is plastered, painted, and packed full of stuff!), and the bathroom/laundry room which is plastered and primed.

A few weeks ago we bought the flooring for that room. We bought natural-colored engineered bamboo snap-in-place flooring. Before installing the flooring, I want to get the cabinets installed, so that's what I am working on now....
